Aisha Thurston was raised in southwestern Michigan. She attended Andrews University and Ohio State University majoring in social work and educational psychology. Aisha was employed by the State of Ohio in various positions for 17 years. She was the 1st African-American to serve Chief of Labor Relations and Training for the Ohio Department of Liquor Control after working many years as a union organizer/staff representative and then as management’s represented for several departments of the State of Ohio. Later, she worked for Franklin County, Ohio as a mediator, child support and paternity hearing officer. Prior to relocating to South Carolina her appointment was pending approval as a Commissioner for the city of Columbus, Ohio. In Ohio, she was involved in the charter school/parental choice movement serving on the school board, an advocate of behalf of women, children and education; successfully lobbying the Ohio Legislature to pass bills to give relatives of children placed in their homes foster care payments, the Ohio Collective Bargaining Law, the Autism Scholarship, the Ed-Choice Scholarship, amendments to Ohio’s Charter School law and other key legislative bills and executive orders to improve the lives of families. She has been appointed by several Ohio governors to serve on various task forces (Adoption, Pay Equity and various Labor-Management committees). As the parent of a special needs child, she is staunch proponent of increasing the educational benefits and services to special needs children. She is a former foster parent at one point, loving 7 children in her home.
Currently, she is the CEO of Bajim, (BA-JEEM) Productions, Inc. a media and event production company and is the Executive Producer/Host of Bajim’s flagship program “The Journey with Aisha” television and radio shows. Her journey has lead her to become a modern day Abolishionist. She is the Director of March for Freedom - SC. An organization dedicated to #endhumantrafficking and #forcedlabor.
Aisha has served various ministries as Sunday School Superintendent, Director of Women’s Ministry, Greeter/Usher, Performing Arts Ministry as well as church administration and Director of Public Relations. She has traveled on a mission’s trip to Eastern Europe as well as the inner cities of the USA. She has designed the “Cultural Diversity – The Lord’s Way”, Stirring Your Gifts, Rejoicing in Long Suffering and other faith based training programs. She is an author, a poet, actress, playwright and former model. Since relocating in 2008 to the Low-Country, she is an active member of the World Outreach Deliverance and Revival (W.O.R.D.) Ministries of Summerville, SC. She is an Ordained Minister and has been consecrated and commissioned in the Office of a Prophetess to serve in the body of Christ. Aisha served on the board of the Rev. G.G. Edmondson Memorial Scholarship, the Child Evangelism Fellowships/Good News Clubs, Darkness 2 Light serving on it’s collation and as a facilitator. Also, Aisha was a Cass Elias McCarter Guardian ad-Litem program. She and her husband, Kevin (US Navy ret.) are blessed with a blended family of 6 children and 6 grandchildren.
Her mission is to encourage people to decide to “be better” and thereby “do better” as they overcome challenges and celebrate the triumphs in their lives.
